Buying or selling a yacht is one of the most significant financial decisions a person can make — and YBAA is making sure the public knows that working with a Certified Professional Yacht Broker (CPYB) makes all the difference.
At the Annapolis Spring Boat Show and the Connecticut Spring Boat Show, YBAA ran dedicated CPYB awareness campaigns featuring prominent signage and advertising designed to connect prospective buyers and sellers with certified professionals in their area. The campaigns directed show attendees to cpyb.net, where they can use the Find a Certified Broker tool to locate a CPYB-credentialed professional near them.
Why the CPYB Credential Matters
The CPYB designation isn't just a set of initials. It represents:
- Experience & Validity — A minimum of three years as a full-time professional, plus a comprehensive written examination
- Continuing Education — An ongoing commitment to personal and professional development
- Ethics & Standards — Accountability to a nationally recognized code of ethics
- Honesty & Integrity — The highest standards of professionalism in every transaction
When a buyer or seller works with a CPYB, they're working with someone who has earned that trust.
Resources Available to Members
YBAA has developed print-ready marketing materials that any member can use to promote the CPYB credential at their brokerage, marina, or upcoming events. Available resources include:
- CPYB Banner — "Work with a Certified Professional" display banner, featuring the CPYB logo, supporting association logos, and a QR code linking to cpyb.net
- CPYB Flyer — A full-page consumer-facing flyer ideal for boat shows, waiting areas, and brokerage offices, highlighting the key pillars of the CPYB credential
- YBAA University Postcard — Promoting the July 15, 2026 YBAA University event at the Herreshoff Marine Museum in Bristol, RI
To access these resources, log in at ybaa.org or cpyb.net and select Resources from your Info Hub menu. Every touchpoint matters — whether it's a banner at a regional show or a flyer in a client meeting.
Keep the Conversation Going on LinkedIn
The boat show campaigns are just one piece of a broader effort to raise CPYB visibility online. YBAA has been sharing CPYB content on LinkedIn to reach industry professionals and consumers where they spend their time. Follow YBAA on LinkedIn and share posts that promote the credential — your network is one of the most powerful tools we have.
A Big Thank You to Our Local Champions
These efforts wouldn't have happened without the enthusiasm and support of YBAA members who stepped up to make it happen. A sincere thank you goes to Mike Titgemeyer, CPYB, Crusader Yacht Sales and JP Skov, CPYB, Northstar Yacht Sales, LLC. Their commitment to elevating the profession — and to ensuring consumers understand what the CPYB credential represents — is exactly what drives this work forward.
