YBAA U PANEL DISCUSSIONS – “HOW DO YOU INTERPRET THE YBAA FORMS?”
By JP Skov, YBAA President and YBAA U Panel Moderator
In the past few years I’ve had many of you call me to share thoughts on certain aspects of our Purchase and Sale Agreements. I’m guessing that some of you feel that if the president of YBAA interprets a clause in our forms a certain way then it must be the right way. Now that’s a scary thought! I always will find time to talk to fellow brokers about the way they do business. The networking that we do through our YBAA relationships can only help to make us all more professional as yacht brokers.
I’ve learned that many of us have different interpretations of some key points of the YBAA Purchase and Sale Agreements. For example, “When do you collect the earnest deposit? Before the offer is presented? Once the offer is accepted? Is there such a thing as a “Conditional Acceptance of Yacht?” These are the types of topics where I think we can all benefit from further discussion so I’ve reached out to some key folks in our industry to join me on the YBAA Universities panels to dive into our forms and the proper interpretation of key aspects. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the upcoming YBAA Universities in Providence and Annapolis.
